From expert repairs to extreme customs
Learn to make a car look like it just rolled off the assembly line in Austin Community College’s Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing Technology Program. Courses cover autobody construction, surface preparation, painting, dent repair, structural repair, and MIG welding. Upon completing the degree, students receive platinum designation as non-structural technicians and refinish technicians from the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR) and are ready to take the I-CAR welding test.
Skills You Gain
In a step-by-step process, students gradually build expertise in a wide range of job skills, by first performing projects on parts and sheet metal, then progressing to real cars. Using the industry’s latest tools and equipment, expert instructors help students master repair and modification techniques for materials such as plastics, fiberglass, aluminum, sheet metal, sheet molded compounds (SMC), and carbon fiber. Students may also learn customization techniques such as airbrushing, custom graphics and paint, carbon fiber, chopping, and shaving. Employers include large and small auto body shops, auto dealers, parts retailers and suppliers, and insurance companies.
