Automotive Technology and Outdoor Powered Equipment

The high demand for skilled automotive technicians puts you in the driver’s seat in this career field. The Automotive Technology and Outdoor Powered Equipment Program at Austin Community College provides hood-to-tail training for diagnosing and repairing engine, drivetrain, brake, suspension, and heating and air conditioning systems. Stackable certificates let you progress toward the associate degree and prepare for industry-recognized ASE certification. Certificate tracks focus on small-engine equipment ranging from motorcycles and watercraft to chainsaws and lawn mowers.

Skills You Gain

Students build expertise in the repair and maintenance of cars, light trucks, sport utilities, and vans. Emphasis is placed on real-world approaches to diagnostic skill building and a thorough understanding of system theory and operations. Our expert instructors combine classroom lessons with hands-on shop time repairing real customers’ cars. Students can even gain valuable experience working on hybrid electric systems. Auto dealers and a wide range of independent auto repair facilities are the most common employers of program graduates.
