History finds the future in understanding the past
Historians broaden our understanding of our world by objectively viewing civilizations and our own national and state heritage. Students choosing to major in history examine such questions as whether the Civil War was unavoidable, or how World War II and the Vietnam War still influence politics today. Students majoring in history typically follow the pathway through the History Program at Austin Community College, then transfer to a bachelor’s degree program at a four-year institution.
Leaders in every industry, from business to the arts, can point to their training as history majors as the starting point for their success. Indeed, historical study plays an important part in fostering well-rounded intellectual development, as well as instilling valuable career skills in research, writing, argumentation, and documentation.
