Transfer Planning Guide

Semester I 

  • Meet with an ACC advisor or counselor.
  • Explore career options. 
  • Research transfer universities. 
  • Set a transfer and/or graduation date. 
  • Attend Transfer Academy Events.

Semester II 

  • Apply to the ACC Transfer Academy
  • Declare a major (sooner is better) 
  • Visit transfer universities, attend college fairs, take advantage of recruitment visits and open houses. 
  • Apply to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (if applicable) and/or the ACC Honors Program.
  • Meet with an ACC advisor or counselor.
  • Contact university transfer counselor, admission and or department.

Semester III 

  • Attend Special Topic Workshops (Essay writing, Apply Texas, Financial Aid, etc.) 
  • Choose 2 or 3 transfer universities to apply to.
  • Research and begin applying for scholarships.
  • Identify application and financial aid deadlines. 
  • Meet with an advisor or counselor to check progress for transfer and/or graduation. 
  • Begin working on application and essay (if applicable).

Semester IV 

  • Apply for graduation (if necessary).
  • Apply and turn in all required documents for transfer application(s).
  • Add school codes to financial aid for all universities you are applying to.
  • Complete university financial aid procedures. The earlier the better.
  • Follow up on application(s).
  • Follow through with all post acceptance instructions (orientation, advising, registration, etc).
  • Indicate that you are interested in reverse transfer if you did not complete your associate's degree.

Summer 

  • Take additional courses if needed to reach your transfer date goal .
  • Get an internship in your intended field (optional).
  • Take advantage of Study Abroad opportunities (optional).  
  • Earn community service hours (optional).
