Minirth-Meier Tunnell & Wilson Clinic

The
Minirth-Meier Tunnell & Wilson Clinic (1987-1994) was a branch of the
Minirth-Meier Clinic which had its headquarters in the Dallas suburb of Richardson, Texas and operated satellite clinics in Chicago (Wheaton, IL), Washington, D.C., Los Angeles (Newport
Beach), Austin, San Antonio, Houston (The Woodlands), and Waco, Texas. The Austin
branch was a comprehensive clinic that offered inpatient, partial hospitalization,
and outpatient services for adults, and outpatient services for children and
adolescents. The clinic operated its own
20 bed inpatient unit at Shoal Creek Hospital from 1987-1991 and at 15 bed unit
at Charter Hospital from 1991-1993. The
outpatient clinic and day hospital facility were located at 1812 Centre Creek Drive in an office building next to Charter
Hospital. The outpatient facility
occupied approximately 16,500 square feet and included 30 individual therapy
offices, 2 play therapy rooms complete with observation windows, a testing
room, a prayer chapel, and a professional library with key journals
representing the professions of psychiatry, psychology, counseling, social work
and medicine. There was an exam room
complete with an EKG machine for physicals.
The facility had 2 group therapy rooms, an AT/Art therapy room, 2 chart
rooms, a staff kitchen, and a lounge and kitchen for day hospital
patients. The Austin clinic also housed a conference center complete with
a full kitchen and two dining rooms capable of supporting workshops with 200
attendees. A large waiting room and
bookstore were also included in the facility.
