NOTE: You may not submit the A exam until your C exam has been accepted and you have submitted the B exam.

A Exam Requirements

Write a 1000-1250 word persuasive research report. Your goal is to try to persuade your reader to agree with you. You may use a topic from the provided list, or use a pre-approved topic of your own choosing. You must have at least three support points, which must be supplemented using secondary sources. Present your claim in an underlined thesis statement in your introduction. Report lengths will be strictly enforced.

The report must incorporate at least three secondary sources. Only one encyclopedia or general reference source counts toward the minimum three sources. The report must also include a "Works Cited" section (bibliography) and proper MLA citations of sources used. You must use proper MLA formats for your citations and Works Cited entries. You do not need to provide an outline.

Choose a topic below or propose a topic to me before you write your report.

Persuasive Topics:
1. Should mandatory limits on reproduction be initiated in the United States?
2. If the military draft is reinstated, should both men and women be subject to the draft? Should women be used in ground combat?
3. Should marijuana be legalized (or decriminalized) for medical and/or recreational use?
4. Has the War on Drugs been a success or a failure?
5. Should so-called hate groups such as the KKK be allowed to parade on the streets of U.S. cities?
6. Should the graduated income tax be replaced with a flat-rate tax or a national sales tax?
7. Should the U.S. Electoral College system be replaced with a popular vote system?
8. At what age or level of crime should juveniles be tried as adults?
9. Should gun manufacturers be held liable for crimes committed with their guns?
10. Currently, most drunken drivers involved in fatal accidents are charged, at most, with manslaughter. Should such drunken drivers, using a car as a weapon, be charged with murder?
11. Should a person's causing a traffic accident while using a cell phone be considered a criminal action, as is DWI or DUI? If so, what should the penalty be?
12. By some projections, the Social Security fund will run out of money in about 10-20 years. Should the Social Security program be ended or made voluntary?
13. Most economists agree the economy is in a recession. Suppose the United States should fall into a depression similar to the Great Depression of the 1930s. Is the American citizenry prepared to endure, and rebound from, such a catastrophe? What might be some of the effects of such a depression?
