Schedule and Assignment Due Dates
English 1301 ONL / section 145 / synonym 44447
Spring 2014 - 12-week semester
Instructor: Skrabanek
This course begins on Monday, February 10, and ends at 5 pm Saturday, May 10, 2014.
Do not submit work for grading before February 10 or after 5 pm Saturday, May 10.
IMPORTANT!
This course is self-paced only in the sense that students can submit coursework early, if possible. Late submissions are frowned upon and penalized.
The due date and time specified indicate when your work should be submitted. In the following Schedule, days means consecutive days, including weekends and holidays. In addition, these conditions will apply to assignment submissions:
-
Assignments are due on the date and time stated in the following Schedule.
- If you submit an assignment after the due date, the assignment is considered a late assignment submission.
- Any student who has three or more late assignment submissions will not be eligible for a grade higher than C or an Incomplete.
- Any assignment submission except Assignment 4 that is more than 7 days late may not be graded. The end of that 7-day period is called a late submission deadline.
- If you miss one late submission deadline, you will be advised to withdraw from the course. If you miss two late submission deadlines, I will withdraw you from the course without notice. If the withdrawal date has already passed, then you will receive a failing grade in the course.
- Any required assignment revision should be submitted as soon as possible. A revision not submitted within 7 days of my return of the graded assignment will be considered as missing a late submission deadline. See details about late submission deadlines above. See special revision deadline for Assignment 4 below. In addition, I will not grade following assignments until preceding assignments are accepted.
ASSIGNMENT 4
Assignment 4 is the research project, which takes more time and effort, so I allow more leniency in submitting Assignment 4.
- If you do not submit Assignment 4 within 7 days of its due date, you cannot qualify for a final grade higher than C.
- If you do not submit Assignment 4 within 14 days of its due date, the assignment will not be graded and you will be dropped from the course without notice.
- If you do not submit an acceptable revision of Assignment 4 (if required) within 21 days of the Assignment 4 due date, the revision will not be graded and you will be dropped from the course. If the withdrawal date has already passed, you will receive a failing grade in the course.
These conditions will also apply:
- Assignments are graded in sequential order, so they must be submitted in sequential order.
- No new assignment submissions will be accepted or graded during the last week of the course. Only assignment revisions and exams will be graded during the last Monday-Saturday.
- During the last two days of the course, you may submit no more than 1 item (revision or exam) total.
EXAMS
After you successfully complete Assignments 1-6 and the three quizzes, I will issue you a C Exam testing permit.
- You will receive your C exam permit with the return of your accepted Assignment 6 file. Then you need to go to an ACC Testing Center.
- There, you have the option to use computer-based online C exam testing using Blackboard. You can type your exam on a Testing Center computer and I can retrieve the exam by Internet. This process shortens the grading and feedback period. Computer-based C exam testing is available at the eight major ACC campuses and some of the outlying testing centers. You need to check with your chosen testing center to be sure it offers English 1301 online testing through Blackboard.
- If you handwrite the exam, during the last week of the course, you must handwrite the exam at the Rio Grande Testing Center to be certain it reaches me before the grading deadline.
- You should write your first attempt at the C exam as soon as you receive your permit. If you wait until the last days of the course, you likely will not have the time to rewrite the C exam if necessary. If your C exam is not acceptable and you don't have time to retest, your final grade will be D. Do not expect leniency in grading if you wait until the last minute to write the C exam.
- If you satisfactorily complete Assignments 1-6 and do not write an acceptable C exam, your final grade will be D. If you do not have time to write the C exam during the semester, you may qualify for an Incomplete. To qualify for an Incomplete, you must have fewer than three late assignment submissions and you must have completed Assignments 1-5 satisfactorily.
- You may not submit the B exam until after you have submitted the C exam. You may not submit the A exam until your C exam has been accepted and you have submitted the B exam.
All work is due no later than 5 pm Saturday, May 10. Work submitted after this time will not be graded.

End-of-Semester Details / Exams
- As soon as you have completed Assignments 1-6 and all three quizzes satisfactorily, I will issue you a C exam permit. The permit will be included with your accepted Assignment 6 submission or revision.
- The C exam must be typed or handwritten in an ACC Testing Center, by special arrangement at an ACC Office for Students with Disabilities, or at a pre-approved alternate facility. Arrangements for testing in facilities other than an ACC Testing Center should be made before the beginning of the semester and must be approved by me.
- IMPORTANT: You should write your first attempt at the C exam as soon as possible after you receive your permit so that you have time to retest if necessary. If you wait until the last days of the course, you will probably not have the opportunity to rewrite the C exam, if necessary. If you wait until the last days to write the C exam, and it is not acceptable, your final grade will be D.
To qualify for an Incomplete, you must have fewer than three late assignment submissions and you must have completed Assignments 1-5 and all three quizzes satisfactorily. You must specifically request an Incomplete from me before the closing time of the semester.
- During the last week of the course, any handwritten C exam MUST be written at the Rio Grande Testing Center (unless previous arrangements have been made and approved by me). Otherwise, you can type your C exam on an ACC Testing Center computer at one of the eight major ACC campuses or some of the outlying testing centers until 5 pm on Saturday, May 10. You should call your chosen testing center ahead of time to see if the online English 1301 C exam using Blackboard is available there. All the major ACC campus testing centers have the online Respondus C exam testing through Blackboard.
- You may not submit the B exam until after you have submitted the C exam. You may not submit the A exam until your C exam has been accepted and you have submitted the B exam.
- IMPORTANT NOTICE: All work is due no later than 5 pm Saturday, May 10. Work submitted after this time will not be graded.
