Human Services and LCDC Information

Important information - DSHS takes about 45 days to process CI applications. They no longer use fingerprint cards.

Thank you for your interest in the ACC Human Services degree program. Our programs will prepare you for employment in public and private human services agencies. The classroom instruction and practical training, including internships, help you develop your skills in a real-life setting.

You will receive training to work with various populations, including children, adolescents, families, the elderly, and people with disabilities. The Addictions Counseling certificate and degree give you the necessary coursework and internship to start the process of becoming a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. Effective September 2004, new LCDC's are required to have an Associates Degree before becoming licensed. We also offer courses for the Certified Criminal Justice Professional and the Certified Prevention Specialist.

We have many courses in our program that are offered both in Fall and Spring semester. For the best planning, we suggest you meet with us and complete a Degree Plan Worksheet. Some of our courses are offered only in the fall semester, others only in the spring semester, and one course is a summer only option. Some courses are available online as well as in the classroom.

For students interested in transferring to a university to receive a bachelor’s degree, many local universities will accept courses from the Human Services program. It is always important to check with the university you are considering for confirmation of transfer credits.

I would be happy to meet with you to discuss a career in the human services profession, the requirements to become a LCDC, and our program in general. Please feel free to contact me by phone (223-3207) or email (ecoccia@austincc.edu) for an appointment.
