Thursday, November 19th, from 9 a.m. to Noon, the University of Texas and Austin Recovery will co-sponsor a workshop on “Incorporating Twelve Step Recovery into Therapeutic Approaches to Addiction Treatment” with Hamilton Beasley, Ph.D. Research has shown that therapy in combination with participation in a 12-Step mutual-help program provides the best outcome in addiction treatment. This workshop provides a grounding in the nature and function of the 12-Step programs, including issues unique to recovery, objectives and function of the 12-Steps, psychological concepts underlying recovery and common client objections to participation in 12-Step recovery (and how to counter them). An emphasis is placed on practical knowledge with immediate application.
Three CEUs are available for Social Workers, LPC, LMFT, LCDC/TAAP-R. This workshop will be held at Austin Recovery, 8402 Cross Park, Austin, TX, 78754. To register, please call 512-471-2886 or email Liz Nowicki at lbnowicki@mail.utexas.edu .
