Restrictions
Students may register for college courses that require skills they have passed on a Texas State Initiative-approved assessment or to which they have demonstrated a previous exemption.
Courses must be approved by the student’s high school prior to meeting with an ACC advisor or counselor.
A student’s high school determines whether an ACC course can receive high school credit (dual credit).
Tuition and fees are not waived for Developmental Education, Continuing Education (non-credit), or audited courses.
Prerequisites
Some courses have prerequisites or other requirements included with the course description. Students may not register for the course until they have met all prerequisites or requirements. References to “successful completion” mean passed with a grade of C or better.
Math and science course assessments
Mathematics and courses requiring math skills - Students planning to take a mathematics course must first take the COMPASS math assessment unless they can document the following minimum scores:
Students may obtain permission slips to take a math assessment from the ACC Advising Center. (Students who take the COMPASS test will have the score required for math placement.)
Human Anatomy - Students planning to take Human Anatomy must first take a biology assessment. Contact the ACC Assessment Office for a schedule.
Human Physiology - Students planning to take Human Physiology must first take a chemistry assessment. Contact the ACC Assessment Office for a schedule.
