A Student's first step in the Early College Start co-enrollment process calls for meeting with their high school counselor. During this initial meeting, you will assist students by:
- Web application process
- Determining required assessments
- Confirming transcript request
- Reviewing the assessment schedule, if not exempt
- Informing students about the web application process
Web application process
First time ECS students are required to complete
ACC’s Admission Application on the web. Students should complete the Residency Questionnaire Form and keep it with their ECS paperwork.
Determining required assessments
Early College Start applicants are required to complete a reading, writing, and mathematics assessment unless they qualify for an exemption.
Students are exempt from taking an assessment if they have acceptable scores on the ACT, SAT, or TAKS tests. Minimum scores are:
- ACT – 23 composite, with 19 in English and 19 in Math
- SAT – 1070 composite, with 500 in Critical Reading and 500 Math
- TAKS – 2200 in Math, and 2200 in ELA, and at least a 3 in Writing
Students may use the score from more than one test to determine exemption from further testing-for example, TAKS Math and SAT Critical Reading.
Students must have obtained an official high school transcript plus an additional personal copy to use in their ACC advising session.
Reviewing the assessment schedule, if required
Students can schedule a Texas Success Initiative-approved assessment at an ACC Assessment Office on any ACC campus. Approved assessments include the COMPASS, and ASSET exams.
Assessment schedule
Note: Schools may arrange for ASSET testing at their high school. Contact the Early College Start Office for details.
COMPASS fee waiver
ACC will waive the testing fee for Early College Start students who take the COMPASS test. Students will be charged a test fee unless they submit a
COMPASS fee waiver at the time they schedule their assessment. COMPASS fees can be waived one time only. Students who retake any sections of the test must pay the appropriate fee.
Requesting accommodations
Students with disabilities who need testing accommodations must contact the
ACC Office for Students with Disabilities before scheduling an assessment.
