About the Foster Care Alumni Program

The Foster Care Alumni Program at Austin Community College is part of the Community Outreach Office. This program connects students with "Campus Champions" on ACC campuses. These Campus Champions work with students to achieve academic success through assistance with academic course selection, mentoring, and providing guidance throughout the student's experience at ACC.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I was a ward of the state in another state and have moved to Texas?
A student who was in the conservatorship of another state would not be eligible to utilize the tuition and fee waiver in the state of Texas.

What if I was adopted?
The tuition and fee waiver program includes any person who was adopted and the subject of a written adoption assistance agreement. Youths who are adopted from foster care or who are eligible for adoption at age 14 or older may also be eligible for the waiver. This legislation was enacted in 1993, with revisions made in 1997. In Sept. 2003, a new provision of Texas State Law, Section 54.2111 of the Texas Education Code was added

What if I need a job and emergency housing assistance?
You may be eligible for services through the After Care Transitional Services Program. Contact LifeWorks at 735.2425 or 800.414.5457 to speak to an intake specialist. You may also contact Scott O'Brien with LifeWorks at 512.653.0769 for assistance.

How do I get my tuition fee waiver form?

Is there anyway to take classes without having to go through the assessment and testing process?
Yes. ACC offers courses through their continuing education program. The course must be 48 contact hours or more (4.8 CEUs or higher). When looking at the course schedule, the course number must start with a 1 or a 2. Contact your Campus Champion for clarification or more information.
