- What is the difference between Fire Protection Technology and the Fire Training
Academy (FTA)?
- Fire Protection
Technology classes are for people who are interested in working
towards an
Associate of Applied Science Degree.
The Fire Training Academy is a program for people who wish to receive their Basic Fire Fighter certification.
- Where is the FTA located?
- ACC FTA is located in Taylor, TX. The academy office sits on HWY
79 (114 W. 2nd St.)
and we are about 35 miles northeast of
Austin.
- How much does it cost to attend the FTA?
- The cost for the academy varies per student, estimating at about $3500.00 for tuition and fees.
- Tuition is based on your residency status (in-district, out-of-district).
For residency questions please call the Admission & Records residency line at 223-7643. - Other academy related fees vary because leasing of dorm rooms and bunker gear is optional.

- Can
I receive any kind of financial assistance?
- Students may apply for grants, scholarships, loans, or all three.
You may contact the Financial Aid office at 223-4AID. Cadets attending the FTA are considered
full time students and receive 26 college credit hours.
- Why do I have to have department approval before I can register?
- Our classroom is limited to 30 seats. Due to the high volume of applicants (up to 100 per term),
we have to find the fairest way for everyone to be able to register.
- How can I have an application mailed to me?

- What criteria do you use when reviewing applications?
- While every application is reviewed and considered, we do give
first priority to:
- students who have already obtained their EMT certification;
- are affiliated with a fire department (employee or volunteer);or
- students who have taken any Fire Protection Technology classes.
Proper documentation must accompany your application for validation purposes.
- When and how will I be notified if I am accepted to the FTA?
- We will notify
students who have been accepted by an official letter:
Spring
class- November, Fall class - May.
- How do I obtain my EMT certification?
- Do you provide job placement?
- No. However, we do provide you with job postings from fire departments
located throughout the state of Texas.
- Does age matter when applying?
- No, age does not matter. However, different fire departments will have different hiring requirements. You will need to contact the department you are interested in and ask them of their age limit.
