Faculty Senate Special Meeting, September 15, 2000

Approval of Agenda:

The agenda was approved as written. The audience was invited to pick up copies of emails and letters from Dr. Fonte and drafts of resolutions.

Opening Meeting to Audience Other than FT Faculty:

Paula Robertson-Rose explained that the Senate bylaws allow all full-time faculty to attend meetings. All other visitors must be approved. She then asked anyone in the audience that was not a full-time faculty member to please identify himself or herself. A reporter from the Austin American Statesman was present. The Senate voted to allow the reporter to stay under the condition that no names would be used without permission from the individual.

Suspension of Rules for Discussion:

The Senate voted to suspend the rules for discussion. All present were allowed to speak by raising their hands with a 3-minute time.

Faculty Concerns:

Discussion included faculty concerns regarding errors made in all aspects of record keeping in the college. This included class rolls, grade reporting, payroll, registration, and student payment records. There was a general consensus that these errors were new or more frequent than in past years. Additionally, it was felt that these errors were in part due to the current incomplete organizational structure, the lack of mid-management, the span of control of supervisors, and the lack of procedures

Following the discussion the two resolutions were passed unanimously.

Meeting adjourned.

Janet Bickman substituted for Irineau Glajar. Byron Dungan and Rick Thompson were absent.
