This is an online supplement to the textbook. It includes many resources, including the MINITAB Manual to accompany our textbook (which would cost about $40 if purchased separately), and electronic version of the textbook, with links to tutoring, more complete answers to the odd-numbered problems, applets, and the Crunch-It statistical software.
You may purchase access to this in three different ways:
* If you buy a new textbook, the textbook is packaged with a folder including
an access code for StatsPortal. (Used textbooks do not include this, of course,
since the student who used the book before use the StatsPortal code.) Once the
package is opened, it cannot be returned.
* You may purchase the access code online with a credit card from the publisher
for $62.95 (August 2009) http://courses.bfwpub.com/bps5e.php.
If you purchase it this way, you can "return" it and get a refund
for about 10 days, if you have not viewed or printed more material than they
expected students to do in the first two weeks. See the website for details
about their refund policy and go ahead and click on "refund request"
to see that. If you want to get a refund, you should not look at (or access
in any way) more than the first three chapters. If you have opened more material
than that, you may not be eligible for a refund.
* You may purchase the folder with the access code in the bookstore separately
from the textbook. This folder approximately the same cost as purchasing the
access code online. Once the folder is opened it cannot be returned.
To sign up for StatsPortal,
o As early as a week or so before classes begin, go to http://courses.bfwpub.com/bps5e.php
and click on the link Register Activation Code. (Or, if you want
to buy the access code online, choose the "Purchase" option here.)
o Follow the on-screen instructions to find this course, by choosing Texas,
Austin CC , your instructors name, and then their course.
o You are identified here by your email address. Give your ACC email address
and choose a password, which doesn't have to be the same as the password you
use for your ACC email address.
Sometimes students have difficulty at some step along the way and try to start
over. Often they are unable to do so because their validation code has already
been used - by them when they tried to sign on earlier!
If you have difficulty like that, then first determine whether you are registered
in the system by trying to sign on, using your email address, and claim that
you forgot your password. The system will try to send your password to the email
address.
If that doesn't work, please email techsupport@bfwpub.com. As of early August 2009, their number is 800-936-6899, which is answered many hours during the week, but not all hours. Follow the Support link on the website for details.
