RELE 1201 Principles of Real Estate

An overview of licensing as a real estate broker and salesperson, ethics of practice, titles to and conveyancing of real estate, legal descriptions, law of agency, deeds, encumbrances and liens, distinctions between personal and real property, contracts, appraisal, finance and regulations, closing procedures, and real estate mathematics. Also includes federal, state, and local laws relating to housing discrimination, housing credit discrimination, and community reinvestment.

RELE 1238 Principles of Real Estate II

Overview of licensing as a broker or salesperson. Includes ethics of practice as a license holder, titles to and conveyance of real estate, legal descriptions, deeds, encumbrances and liens, distinctions between personal and real property, appraisal, finance and regulations, closing procedures, and real estate mathematics. Covers at least three hours of classroom instruction on federal, state, and local laws relating to housing, discrimination, housing credit discrimination, and community reinvestment. Fulfills at least 30 of 60 hours of required instruction for salesperson license.

RELE 1211 Law of Contracts

A review of real estate contracts required by Section 6A (3) of the Real Estate License Act with emphasis on general contract law requirements. Also covers the purpose, history, and working process of the Broker-Lawyer Committee. Includes preparation of real estate contract forms with emphasis on the most commonly used forms.

RELE 2201 Law of Agency

A study of law of agency including principal-agent and master-servant relationships, the authority of an agent, the termination of an agent's authority, the fiduciary and other duties of an agent, employment law, deceptive trade practices, listing or buying representation procedures, the disclosure of agency, and related subjects.

A Little about Gordon:

Gordon, who is currently active in real estate, began his career in real estate in 1973 as a sales person and two years later obtained his broker’s license. His educational background includes a Bachelors Degree from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and a MBA from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas.

He started actively training agents entering the real estate profession in 1975, and continues to do so as an Adjunct Professor of Real Estate for Austin Community College. Additionally he provides training and seminars for the Austin Board of Realtors® and the Texas Association of Realtors®. In addition to teaching real estate courses, Gordon has authored course texts on Agency, Risk Reduction, Buyer Agency, Contracts, and Property Tax Appeals. Many of the texts
are still in use today and provide for credit under TREC’s Mandatory Education Requirements.

In addition to Gordon’s college education he also possesses the following designations from the National Association of Realtors®:

  • Graduate of the Realtor Institute (GRI)
  • Certified Residential Broker (CRB)
  • Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR)


Gordon has also been recognized for performance in the real estate industry:

  • Austin Board of Realtors® – “Distinguished Service Award”, 2000
  • Texas Association of Realtors® – “Educator of the Year”, 2002
  • Austin Board of Realtors® – “Chairman’s Special Award”, 2006
