Faculty are encouraged to contribute active learning activities and/or web based activities for either US or Tx Govt to the Chair (at NRG). These will be shared via a link to the Govt web page.
Faculty were reminded of VP Steve Kinslow's expectations regarding overrides and informal transfers. Students will not be allowed to enter closed classes or informally transfer into closed classes unless the college has committed an error with that students' schedule. Please hold firm to this.
Faculty were reminded of the new Grade Change forms. If you need to change a grade from the summer semester, please use the new form, which should be available in the Provost's office or the Admissions office.
A link to the Spring 2002 schedule will be available shortly. Full-time faculty should forward their requests to the Chair by Sept 4. Please coordinate with the other full-time faculty on your campus before submitting your request.
Part-time faculty should use the e-staffing system to make their requests.
Faculty were reminded that all full-time faculty must complete 12 hours of professional development in the coming year; part-time faculty must complete 4 hours. As you complete these hours, send your "receipt" or other form of documentation to the Chair. If you would like to receive professional development credit for attending a conference, seminar, etc., contact the Chair in advance for approval.
Upcoming Task Force Meetings will be held Sept 21, Oct 19, and Nov 16 at 1:00. Each meeting will be preceded by a Brown Bag Seminar at noon. Room numbers will be forthcoming.
Adjunct Faculty Committee: Committee Chair Judy Nwachie indicated that they will be interviewing roughly 8 applicants in the coming weeks.
Professional Development Committee: If you have any ideas for professional development activities please forward them to the Committee Chair, Karry Evans, at RGC.
Evaluation Committee: The Chair of this committee, Stefan Haag, reminded faculty to keep copies of their Fall syllabi, course handouts, assignments, quizzes, exams etc., as these will be needed in your faculty portfolio. More information regarding the evaluation process can be found in the Govt Dept handbook, and on the web.
Student Assessment: Last Spring the Task Force voted to implement a short essay assessment rather than a multiple choice assessment test. Ten sections of Govt 2305 and Ten sections of Govt 2306 were randomly selected to be included in the Fall Assessment. If your section was chosen you received a letter (at your home address) notifying you of this, and explaining the process. If you have any questions regarding this, contact the Committee Chair, Marilyn Mote-Yale (NRG). All faculty are invited to serve on the Grading Team in the Spring.
Lynn Lehle received departmental approval for her request to attend a seminar on Learning Communities in California.
Judy Nwachie received departmental approval for her request to attend two conferences: the National Model UN conference in New York, and an "Icons Training & Development" seminar in California.
