Agenda Item:  Welcome

Presenter:  Glen Hunt

Discussion:      Glen welcomed everyone back for the fall semester.  New full-time and adjunct faculty were introduced.  Packets were distributed containing the Government Department Handbook for 2006-07 as well as beginning of the semester information reminding faculty to enter office hours, send in a copy of their syllabus, print the online roster and use it to check roll the first few class days, and avoid informal transfers.  He also passed out a memo from Kris Seago regarding the process of establishing a WEB presence.  The department is encouraging all faculty to establish at least a minimal web presence this year.

 

Agenda Item: Student Assessment

Presenter:       Cecile Durish

Discussion:      Cecile presented the Student Assessment Committee’s Four Year Plan for student assessment.  This Fall pre and post tests will be given in randomly selected classrooms.  These assessment instruments will be composed of 15 multiple choice questions.  This year the assessments will focus on the institutions-executive, bureaucratic, and legislative.

Decision/Follow-Up items:    Cecile will coordinate the distribution of the student assessments to randomly selected instructors in September.

Agenda Item: Travel Requests

Presenter:       Glen Hunt

Discussion:      Five travel requests were presented:  Paz Pena, Marilyn Mote-Yale, and Maria Luz de la Valverde for the American Political Science Association meeting in Philadelphia, PA on August 30-Septemebr 3; Dr. Judy Nwachie to the INMP Annual Meeting in Whittier, CA on November 9-12 ; and Dr. Judy Nwachie to the National Model United Nations in New York, NY on March 16-25.  All were approved.
