GOVERNMENT TASK FORCE MEETING MINUTES

Date: 9/11/98

Attending: Frank J. Garrahan, presiding, Paz Pena, Ed Mullen, Judy Nwachie, Lynn Lehle, Stefan Haag, Ron Fletcher, Gaye Lynn Scott, Glen Hunt, Hugh Moore, Johathan Buckstead

Meeting:

Friday, 9/11/98
HBC 217 (formerly DAO)
1:00pm

Agenda:

1. Committee Assignments. Chair passed out copy of Full/Time faculty assignments to T/F subcommittees for members to correct their campus & email information. Corrected copy attached. Committee assignments were made by the Chair based on preferences received and in an effort to ensure balance and fairness. Not all faculty received their first choice for committee assignment. Faculty should send corrections to campus & email addresses to the Chair.

2. Selection of Adjunct Faculty representatives. The following Adjunct Faculty have volunteered to serve as official voting members of the Government Task Force: Vicke Hammond, Cecile Durish, Jonathan Buckstead, George Finan, Hugh Moore, and Glen Hunt.

3.Should "D's" count towards the Government Associate Degree? Task Force discussed this issue and decided the following: "D's" would not be accepted for any of the required courses for the Associate Degree, but would be acceptable for elective courses as long as the cumulative grade point average is 2.0 or better.

4. Allocation of Supply moneys to the Assistant Deans' budgets at the various campuses. As it did last year the Task Force decided to allocate our consumable supplies moneys to the Assistant Deans of Social & Behavioral Sciences on each of the campuses based on their average course enrollment. (Transfers were initiated by the Chair on 9/15/98).

5. Update on course assessments. Exams & scantrons were sent to selected faculty the first week of classes. Exams from all 21 sections of US GOV 2613 have been returned. Unfortunately, instructors for only 13-14 of the 18 Texas GOV 2623 sections have returned scantrons & exams (Someone returned the scantrons with no exams & the scantrons do not indicate whether they are TX or US). This may mean that the assessment of TX GOV this semester may be invalid. If the Task Force decides that they are, we might have to do them during the Spring '99 semester.

It was decided that since some faculty did not complete this task as required, the end of semester testing will require that tests be mailed to faculty under their names and returned to my office under their names. We tried to keep it all anonymous, but it is critical to know which exams are not administered & by whom.

6. Task Force & Faculty WEB pages. The Government Task Force WEB page is being designed now & its basic structure should be up and running by October 1. The Chair encouraged everyone to attend WEB Page training sessions at ACC. In the future it will be expected that all faculty have WEB Pages containing at least their office hours and syllabi.

The Chair also pointed out that it has come to his attention that many faculty members have not inputted their office hours on the ACC WEB. Please complete this task as soon as possible. (This is done through the Faculty Development Office: www2.austin.cc.tx.us/fdo)
