Online Orientation:

If you do not complete this online orientation, you must contact this instructor within One Week of Late Registration or you may be dropped from the course.

Course Requirements:

Microsoft Word:
The student will need the word processing program MicroSoft Word to complete online assignments for this course.

Attendance:
You will be required to logon to your class via Blackboard at least 3 times per week to access course materials or to communicate with your class. Your logon should be on three different days of the week. The Blackboard system can track logon times and frequencies. Blackboard accounts will be created and students will be enrolled the week prior to classes starting.

Withdrawal Policy:
You may withdraw from a class at any time before the withdrawal deadlines published in the academic calendar. Dropping out of class or notifying the instructor does not constitute authorized withdrawal. Students may withdraw from one or more courses prior to the withdrawal deadline by submitting a request form to Admissions and Records. Withdrawal courses appear on the student's record with a grade of W. Until a student is officially withdrawn, the student remains on the class roll and may receive a grade of F for the course. NOTE: It should be understood that it is the student's responsibility and not the instructors' to drop a course. A student that discontinues coming to class and fails to drop a course is subject to receiving a final, permanent grade of "F". The complete withdrawal policy is included in your syllabus.

Assignments:
You will have
HOMEWORK assignments due for lessons or other requirements which you will submit to your instructor. (See Blackboard Course Information for details).

Grading Policy:
The student’s final grade for the course will be determined from a combination of factors.

Each student will be required to complete five homework assignments worth 125 points when totaled. Three examinations will be given worth 100 points each. Each student will be graded on *participation of discussion topics that will be listed on the discussion board weekly which count for 100 total points. The maximum possible points during this course is 525. At the end of the term the total points will be tallied for each student and divided by five. The remainder will be the final numeric grade.

The following
table will list numeric to alpha grade
conversions:
90-100=A
80 - 89=B
70-  79=C
60-
    69=D
Below 60=F

There will be no curves. Each student will receive exactly what they earn.

* Participation will be evaluated by frequency, value, content and contribution of each student's activities during discussion board topics.

Testing Procedures:

Exams will be available at the campus testing centers or on Blackboard. (See course exam process)
If you are taking your exam at the testing center, you must check for the times and days that your center will be open (see www.austincc.edu/testctr  for test center information. You must take exams during the week/day(s) it is available. Failure to take the exam during the prescribed period may reduce your exam score or result in a zero for the exam.

Each student must take the required midterm and final exams as described in the syllabus and orientation.

For students residing outside the ACC service area, the student must get approval from the instructor to test at a location other then specified ACC testing centers.

The student outside the ACC service area must locate a testing facility at a nearby college or university during the first two weeks of the semester and advised the instructor of the matter.  The Open Campus/Distance Learning staff will assist the student in this task.  Once faculty approval is given, a receiving institution has agreed to provide the distance testing service, and the faculty member has provided Open Campus (OPC) with all necessary tests and Distance Testing Transmittal forms, OPC staff will forward all testing materials to the college or university.  The web for Distance Learning at Austin Community College is http://dl.austincc.edu

The Help Line is 512/223-8026 or 1-888-223-8026 or you can email dl@austincc.edu

The student is responsible for paying any testing/proctoring fees to the proctoring institution and the costs for returning the completed exams to the instructor or OPC.

Testing Center Rules:
It is the student’s responsibility to obtain, read and be thoroughly familiar with ACC Testing Center Rules prior to taking exams at the center. Violation of these rules is very serious and may result in disciplinary action being taken against the student. For more information refer to www.austincc.edu/testctr

Scholastic Dishonesty: Any form of scholastic dishonesty by the student will automatically earn a grade of “F” for this course.

Incompletes:
The grade of “I” (Incomplete) will only be awarded for medical reasons verified by a satisfactory letter from a physician.  All “Incompletes” must be completed within the first four weeks of the following semester.  There are no exceptions to this policy.

Students With Special Needs:
Special adaptations and arrangements will be made for students with documented learning difference (i.e. disabilities) or temporary disabilities.  Should you have learning, sensory, or a psychiatric disability, please let your instructor know early in the semester so that your learning needs can be appropriately met.  Students with special needs who require special arrangements, exemptions, or deadline extensions must present documentation concerning the disability to the Office for Students with Disabilities at 512/223-8300 or  (TTY) 512/223-8067 at the Pinnacle Campus (PIN).  PIN is located  at 7748 Hwy 290 West, Austin, TX  78736.
