What is P-16 education?

“P-16” is a term used to describe the goal of creating a seamless educational system of public education. It refers to the spectrum of Pre-School through college completion.

The goals of P-16 initiatives are to maximize student success by:

  • reducing drop out rates
  • reducing the number of high school graduates needing remedial education
  • increasing participation in higher education
  • increasing the numbers completing college degrees and certificates
  • ensuring a qualified workforce necessary to support economic development.

P-16 initiatives are designed to respond to the challenges of Texas' Closing the Gaps initiative.
