Texas Association of Community Colleges (TACC) P-16 Committee |
Committee Purpose
The P-16 Committee serves to articulate ACC position statements regarding P-16 public policy issues. The P-16 Committee will promote and share best practices for enhancing partnerships between public ISDs and community colleges, with the goal of achieving the State's Closing the Gaps participation and success goals.

1. TACC Position Statement
As requested for the consideration of the TACC membership, develop position statements on P-16 public policy issues which may be shared as part of TACC's legislative agenda, or for interaction with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Texas Education Agency, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, or other organizations. |
- TACC Board of Directors requests the P-16 Committee to draft recommended position statements for TACC member consideration;
- The TACC Executive Director, with the approval of the Chair of the TACC Board of Directors, may request a committee position statement in-between formal TACC meetings, and will share the request with all TACC members to ensure their awareness and ability to provide input;
- The Committee Chair will coordinate with the committee the actions necessary to secure a draft position for consideration.

2. P-16 Councils
Promote the formation of P-16 Councils in community college Service Areas to address core Closing the Gaps goals. |
- Summarize best practices of P-16 Councils;
- Create TACC web links to colleges which have P-16 Councils to facilitate the sharing of initiatives.

Annual review to determine growth of this initiative throughout the State. |

3. Best Practices Sharing
Promote among TACC institutions the sharing of best practices which effectively address the primary P-16 goals of increasing high school early college start experiences, increasing the number of high school students entering higher education immediately after high school graduation, increasing higher education participation among minority and economically disadvantaged populations, enhancing college-readiness skills and STEM program articulations, and innovative ISD/community college partnerships which significantly impact Closing the Gap goals. |
- TACC CEOs may submit institutional programs or activities they believe have merit for state-wide consideration;
- Committee will review and determine whether to list the program or activity on the TACC P-16 web site via link to the host institution, or to extract "best practices;"
- Committee action will be reported to TACC membership.
