A dental hygienist is a licensed health care professional. Dental hygiene is the science and practice of the recognition, treatment, and prevention of oral diseases. Graduates of the Dental Hygiene program are eligible to work in any number of health care settings such as private dental offices, schools, and nursing homes.
The Program in Dental Hygiene has been granted the accreditation status of approval without reporting requirements by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation (ADA CODA) based on the 2012 Program review. The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education. The next Program site visit by the Commission is scheduled to occur in 2019.
The ADA CODA will accept comments from students and patients about our Program. All comments submitted must pertain to the standards releative to the Program or policies and procedures used in the accreditation process. A copy of the Dental Hygiene Educational Standards, the Commission's policies and procedures used in the accreditation process, and the policy on third party comments are available for review.
