Overview

The ACC Emergency Medical Services Professions Program offers three levels of awards. These awards include an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences in EMS Technology, a Level Two Certificate in EMS Technology - Paramedic, and a Level One certificate in EMS Technology - EMT Intermediate.

All curricula combine classroom teaching with a supervised clinical, laboratory and ambulance internship experience. Emphasis is placed on patient assessment and initial treatment techniques of medical and traumatic emergencies appropriate to the certification or licensure level being sought.

Successful completion of the Level I Certificate leads to certification as an EMT-Intermediate. This curriculum includes 21 College Credit hours and a total of 827 contact hours, 731 of these hours within EMSP program courses.

Successful completion of the Level II Certificate leads to certification as a Paramedic. This curriculum includes 45 College Credit hours and a total of 1663 contact hours, 1519 of these hours within EMSP program courses.

Successful completion of the Associate Degree of Applied Sciences leads to licensure as a Paramedic. This curriculum includes 68 College Credit hours and a total of 2143 contact hours, 1567 of these hours within EMSP program courses.

All courses in the Level I certificate apply to the Level II certificate. All courses in the Level II certificate apply to the Associate Degree Award. Students need not repeat courses or complete competency evaluations unless more than two years passes between awards and admission to the next level or the student is transferring from another institution.

Program Progression
Once accepted into the program, students must continue to make satisfactory progress in order to maintain enrollment in the department.

The program enrolls students to begin advanced training each semester. Classes are offered in the daytime only, twice a week. In the summer semester, the class is held three times per week and is only offered in the daytime. Consult the current credit course schedule.
