Prerequisite Courses

EMT Prerequisites

Since students will be working in a clinical setting with real patients, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Students must be 18 years old when the application is submitted - no exceptions
  • Students must show proof of immunizations
  • Students must be recently certified in CPR through an American Heart Association class at a healthcare provider level
  • Students must pass a criminal background check
  • Students must pass a drug screen.
  • Students must complete online information session.
  • Students must be in good standing with the college; cannot be on academic probation.

Advanced EMT and Paramedic Prerequisites

The only prerequisite for the EMS program at this time is a Texas EMT certification or proof of enrollment in a current EMT class or eligible to take the National Registry Exam. However, since students will be working in a clinical setting with real patients, applicants must also meet the following criteria:

  • Must hold current Texas EMT-Basic certification
    • Or proof of current enrollment in an EMT-Basic class
    • Or eligible for National Registry Exam
  • Students must be 18 years old when the application is submitted - no exceptions
  • Students must show proof of immunizations
  • Students must be recently certified in CPR through an American Heart Association class at a healthcare provider level
  • Students must pass a criminal background check
  • Students must pass a drug screen.
  • Student must be TSI complete or exempt
  • Student must be in good academic standing; cannot be on academic probation.
