Health Sciences Application Process

Important note: The Medical Coding program, whether taken through Continuing Education or for credit, requires the following application process and department chair approval. Please read the following instructions very carefully.

Determine your needs:

  • Undeclared major: Up to four HITT classes can be taken for those who are already working in the Medical Coding field.
  • Declared major for certificate or AAS: By declaring your major and submitting an application for the certificate or the AAS program you are eligible to attend the clinical(s), which are critical components in any Health Science program.

Program Selection:

The class is selected based on the date that the completed program application is received in the Health Science admissions office.

  • After the next semester’s class has been selected, students will be notified to complete a Criminal Background Check. Failure to complete the Criminal Background Check within the given time limit will result in the forfeiture of the student’s placement in the class and the next applicant on the list will be contacted. It is very important that we have your current contact information, especially an email address.  IMPORTANT: Do not submit your Criminal Background Check until notified by the HITT Department Chair.
  • Once your CBC comes back you will be notified that it is time to register for the course. This MUST be done in a timely fashion. Failure to register for the course by the given deadline will result in your spot being given to another student.

Continuing Education Application for Medical Coding Certificate

The advantage of taking Medical Coding certificate through Continuing Education is that it is a less expense way for “out of district” students. However, the student must meet the same program requirements for applying as college credit students. It is possible to take the Medical Coding Program as continuing education (non-college credit) and then convert that coursework to college credit once the student has three (3) college credit hours at ACC. Students must request this conversion to college credit within two years of successfully completing the Medical Coding Certificate Program.

Step 1

  • Complete an Information Session.
    • Information sessions can either be done Online or at the Eastview Campus
    • In addition to the application, a Declaration of Major and Information Session Verification Form must be submitted with the application. Both forms can be found under the Verification Tab on the Online Information Session.
