Medical Imaging refers to the techniques and processes used to produce images of the human anatomy using modalities such as radiography, computerized tomography, nuclear medicine imaging, and a relatively new modality, Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Medical Imaging is used to reveal, diagnose or examine pathology including the study of normal anatomy and physiology.
MRI is primarily a medical imaging modality that utilizes the resonant frequency properties of atoms that are placed within a powerful magnetic field. MRI provides excellent contrast between different soft tissues of the body making it especially useful in neurological (brain), musculoskeletal, and cardiovascular imaging.
