RNSG 1247/RNSG 2161 - Concepts of Clinical Decision Making and Clinical

CEC - Fall 2011

First Class Day:

  • Date: Monday, September 26, 2011
  • Time: 9:00 – 12:00 pm
  • Place: CEC Room C1.110

Calendar: Spring 2012

Classes:

  • When: Mondays from 8-12 (Some start earlier and/or extend to 12:30, see calendar)
  • Where: CEC Room C1.110

Tests:

  • Tests will be given in the nursing computer lab.
  • See calendar for specific dates
  • There will be two tests and one cumulative final

Dosage Calculation Test:

  • The Dosage Computation Test for Level 3 will be given during the first week on August 22, 2011 8:00 to 9:00 am.

Labs:

  • Lab attendance is MANDATORY. See calendar for dates(indicated in red).

Mastery Skills Checkoff:

  • When: Wednesday, August 24, times TBA.
  • Where: CEC Skills Lab for all students.
  • This will be a comprehensive mastery skills check-off over previously learned skills: injections, urinary catheterization, IVs, trach care & suctioning.
  • You will be given a patient situation and will be required to complete several skills satisfactorily.
  • The Eastview and CEC skills labs will be open the week before the semester begins for practice.
  • You must pass the mastery skills test satisfactorily or you may be withdrawn from the course.

RNSG 2161 Clinical

Clinical focus is in a medical-surgical area

  • The rotation is for 5 weeks.

Where & When:

You will be notified of your clinical sites, times, and days during your orientation to Level 3.

Where & When: (may be tentative)

  • Central Texas Medical Center, San Marcos, Thurs. & some Fri. days
  • Seton Northwest, Thurs and Fri
  • North Austin Medical Center, Fri eves, Sat days
  • St. Davids Hospital (Main), Sat 12 hrs
  • Seton Hays, Wed 12 hrs

RNSG 1247 Over Summer Break

For those of you that can't get enough medical/surgical and want to read over the break, the first test will include the material covered on the following readings:

    pp. 569-577 (tuberculosis, atypical mycobacterium, pulmonary fungal infections, & lung abscess)

STDs:

  • Read Lewis et al., 7th ed.

Female Reproductive:

  • Read Lewis et al., 7th ed.
    Chapter 52, p. 1348-1364; Chapter 54, p. 1385-1413.
