RNSG 2213 Mental Health Nursing
Orientation:
- Date: Monday, August 22, 2011 in Room C1.111.
- Time: 9:00-10:00; Orientation: Orientation and LAB; a lab is scheduled immediately after orientation.
- Orientation at this time is only for the Mental Health course. Please see the calendar for the date and time for orientation to the Med/Surg course.
- Orientation is mandatory, lab is mandatory clinical hours are mandatory.
- What to do for orientation and what to bring:
- Review the syllabus online: Syllabus RNSG 2213 and Syllabus 2160
- Signed copy of the release forms for the student handbook as well as 2213 (theory) and 2160 (clinical) syllabi
- Clinical Clearance Slips - required...however since many of you are taking more than one course, you will be required to hand these in to your 1260 (medical surgical) clinical faculty.
Calendar: Fall 2011
There are some students who will only be taking Mental Health. These students will be in clinical for one 5 week rotation. Please note that class times vary to accommodate the majority of students and to match the availability of lab and computer access.
Mental Health Clinical Rotation: To be posted; If this is not posted; it is not available.
Class:
- When: Monday 8:00-10:00 after the first 2 weeks ( see calendar: class will be later on days when there is a test for 1443 and the first 2 weeks of class)
- You will have some exams and Labs for 1443 on Monday prior to this class or in the afternoons. On these days class and lab will start later and end later.
- Where: CEC Classroom C1.111.
- What to Bring: Print out notes from blackboard for the module being taught.
- Once Blackboard is available review weekly.
Lab:
- When: see calendar for dates Monday ( There are not as many labs as classes so check your calendar; class will be later on days when there is a test for 1443)
- All students in Group A B and C are required to come to labs as posted on the calendar. When students are in the Mental Health clinical, 2160, they will attend additional labs to assist with clinical homework and individual client care.
- You will have some tests for 1443 on Monday prior to this class. On these days, class and lab will be scheduled later.
Classroom:
- Our classroom is C 1.111. There are no anticipated changes in our classroom this semester. Stay flexible; we are in health care with many people and many needs so there can always be challenges.
Tests: There are three tests and a final (total:4)

Clinical:
You will be notified of your clinical sites, times, and days during your orientation to Level 2. In order to complete all requirements for this clinical course students must attend all labs, complete all clinical assignments and work with clients in the hospital for a total of 64 hours. The number of days each of the 3 clinical rotations is in clinical for Mental Health may vary slightly. Therefore the number of hours in the clinical setting may vary slightly.
All students were informed at the beginning of the program that clinical hours would be offered at various days and times. All clinical rotations are 2 days a week on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. Most rotations have one day of hours during the day and one day of hours in the afternoon/evening.
Most clinical rotations will be on Wednesday days and Thursday day or evening. If you have already completed RNSG 1443 you will be in Rotation B.
Students taking RNSG 1443 concurrently with this course will be in Rotation A or C.
