Admission to Austin Community College does not guarantee admission to a Health Sciences program.

Complete Sonography Student Lab Volunteer Sessions for DMS, DCS and VT

  • For appointments call:
    • 512-223-5945 for DMS and VT session appointments (Eastview)
    • 512-223-0294 for DCS and VT session appointments (Round Rock)
  • Minimum of one (1) session for each specialty is required (additional points can be earned on Applicant Ranking Worksheet for volunteering up to 4 sessions per each specialty lab session).
  • You are the "patient" for the on-campus clinical session (lab) so you will experience different types of Sonograms first hand and see how our students learn their skills.
  • You will receive a Sonography Student Lab Volunteer Session tracking form at your first volunteer session appointment. You MUST bring this form to every volunteer session appointment.

An in-person Sonography Programs Advising Session is required for all applicants.

Schedule a Sonography Program Advising Session with a Sonography faculty member. Click HERE for link to request form. You'll be able to have your questions answered and outside transcripts reviewed (if applicable) during this Advising Session.

Step 5: Requirements to Apply

  1. You MUST be admitted to ACC to applyto a Sonography Program
  2. Immunizations
    • The ACC Health Sciences Immunization Form MUST be used.
    • Your completed immunization record is uploaded into CastleBranch one time only. You will need to use code UL64im.
    • NOTE: If you are choosing to have the serologic testing for the MMR, and/or Hepatitis B, and/or Varicella requirements, the results MUST show immunity. Any serologic test results of "equivocal" require that you obtain the vaccinations as listed.
    • Contact the Health Sciences Compliance Coordinator if you have questions about immunization requirements and/or your immunization records. The Sonography Programs faculty cannot answer your questions about immunizations.
  3. College credit courses required to apply must be completed within 5 years of application date.
    • Minimum GPA required to apply is 2.7 in prerequisite courses; historically a competitive GPA is approximately 3.5
    • Prerequisite courses may be repeated for a higher grade one (1) time within 5 years of application date.
    • See Allowed Course Substitutions if taking courses at another college or university for transfer to ACC.

    • College Algebra (MATH 1314)

  4. Formal Patient Care Education (State of Texas CNA training) required to apply
    • CNA courses are offered through the ACC Continuing Education Division: Health Professions Institute. Call 512-223-7542 for more information
    • If taking CNA at ACC, both NURA 1001 and NURA 1060 must be completed. A CNA license is not required to apply to a Sonography Program.
    • Immunizations, TB test, Criminal Background Check and Drug Screen are required.
  5. TEAS test required to apply
    • Take the TEAS test one (1) time between January 1 and June 1 of the year of application.
    • Failure to comply with the above time frame and/or number of times allowed will results in zero (0) points in this criterion on the Applicant Ranking Worksheet.
    • See the ACC Support Services website for more information on scheduling your TEAS test.
    • Additional information and study guides can be found through an internet search for TEAS.
    • Applicants who have taken the TEAS (or HOBET) for application to another Health Science Program and/or re-applicants to a Sonography Program must contact the Sonography Programs Department Chair for approval to re-take the TEAS test.


Earning OPTIONAL BONUS POINTS on the Applicant Ranking Worksheet

Completion of Corequisite Courses from Degree Plan: additional points will be awarded for completion of any corequisite course (non-Sonography course) on the AAS degree plan.

  • If completed prior to admission, these courses are not repeated within the Program; however, Financial Aid may be impacted when credit hours in a semester are reduced.
  • Corequisite courses are NOT required to be completed within five (5) years of applying to a Sonography Program.
  • Alloed substitute courses are published in the Prerequisites and Corequisites section of the Sonography Programs website.

Formal Patient Care Education Greater than CNA: additional points will be awarded for completion of EMT-Basic or higher (LVN, RN, Rad Tech, Paramedic ONLY) instead of or in addition to minimum required CNA training.

Direct Patient Care Experience: additional points will be awarded for 80 or more hours of volunteer or paid patient care experience. Hours must be in addition to Formal Patient Care Education Clinical Hours. The Patient Care Experience Form must be used to document your additional patient care experience hours.

  • Phlebotomy, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Office Assistant (front office) and/or other medical office duties do not qualify for direct patient care hours.
