Admission Selection Process

(updated 2/29/2012)

Sonography Applications are accepted between December 1 of each year and February 4 of the next year (for the class of Summer 2015. For the class of Fall 2016, Applications will be accepted April 1, 2016 to June 1, 2016. The Sonography Application is available in an on-line format from this website; when completed, the application is submitted by email directly to the Sonography Department. The remainder of the Application Documents must be delivered (in person or by mail) to the Health Sciences Information Office at either the Eastview or Round Rock Campuses. The HS Office office completes an Intake Form for the application packet and forwards the packet to the HS Compliance Coordinator for review of the applicant's Immunization Record. If deficiencies are found in the application packet document, the applicant will be contacted by the Sonography Department. The applicant must submit all required documentation by the February 4 deadline for Summer 2015 by by June 1st for Fall 2016.

When the application period has closed, the Sonography Admissions Committee ranks all applications using the Sonography Applicant Ranking Worksheet. Applicants specify their desired program on the Sonography Application and the DMS and DCS pools are ranked separately. Prior to accepting students for the next admission class, the Sonography Programs determine the number of students that can be accepted for that class. The number of appropriate clinical sites available and willing to accept student placements throughout the length of the program (5 semesters) dictates the number of students accepted for each program every year. The top 15 applicants are accepted for each AAS degree (DMS and DCS) Sonography Program (the number of applicants accepted MAY vary from year to year).

  • To be compliant with clinical facility requirements, a mandatory criminal background check will be required prior to admission to the Sonography Program. As specific timelines must be met, do not do this until instructed by the Program.
  • To be compliant with clinical facility requirements, a mandatory drug screen is required for clinical rotations. As specific timelines must be met, do not do this until instructed by the Program.

Check the Application Status section for the current stage of the Admission Process.

An applicant who is not accepted into a Sonography Program will receive a letter stating his/her non-acceptance which also details the process if the applicant chooses to re-apply in the next applicant pool. Non-accepted applicants are encouraged to visit with the Health Sciences Admission and Information Office to review their Applicant Ranking Worksheet.

Sonography Applications are kept on file for 1 year; if the applicant does not re-apply by then end of the next application period, then his/her application file is purged from the Sonography files.

The following Sonography Applicant Ranking Worksheet is used in the admission selection process.

  • Please note that there is no ranking "number" that guarantees admission to either the DMS or DCS program; every applicant pool is fresh (no waiting list is used) so acceptance into the DMS or DCS program is based on an applicant's ranking within the pool for that year.
