help For Distance Learning Students

Distance Learning (DL) provides a flexible way to take an ACC class or an entire degree or certificate program without attending regularly scheduled classes on campus. The Site is designed to assist Distance Learning students obtain helpful information and quickly access resources. ACC offers many services to support your academic success and college experience. We encourage you to bookmark this page and refer to it as needed.

Testing

Many distance learning classes require that you take tests in an Academic Testing Center located on an ACC campus or one of their satellite locations. Your instructor will inform you if you need to take a test in a Testing Center. Click here for more on Testing Centers

If you live outside of the ACC service area, out of state or overseas, you may be eligible to take your tests remotely by making arrangements for Distance Testing. Click here for more on Distance Testing

Tutoring

Learning Labs provide one-on-one and group tutoring, as well as tutor-lead study groups in a variety of subject areas. Labs are located at all full-time ACC campuses.

ACC also provide 15 hours of free online tutoring services per semester for distance learning students who cannot come to campus to meet with a tutor in person. The service is called SMARTHINKING and provides academic support and independent study resources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition to live, one-on-one help with a number of subjects, SMARTHINKING also offers an Online Writing Lab to assist students with writing essays and papers in many disciplines. Academic Advising/Counseling

ACC offers counseling services to address the unique needs of Distance Learning students. The DL Counselor, Carol Townsend, helps students select appropriate courses, decide on reasonable course loads, and address questions about online and distance education. Click here to contact Carol Townsend.

Blackboard

Blackboard® is the name of the online system used to offer students online information, resources, tools and materials for their courses. Known as a Content Management System (CMS), it supports distance learning and classroom courses at ACC. Use your ACCeID and password to login. Click here to go to the Blackboard Website
