Setting Up a New Email Profile in
Microsoft Outlook 2000 or Outlook Express

  1. Open either Microsoft Outlook 2000 or Outlook Express at the top of the screen go to Tools, then down to Accounts, and click on ADD to add a new e-mail profile.

  1. Type in a Display name, in this case it is ACC E-mail. Click Next

  1. Type your ACC e-mail address: username@austincc.edu then click next.

  2. You may choose to use either a POP3 server or an IMAP server. If you only check your ACC e-mail on one computer by one person POP3 is recommended (make sure to complete Step 7 below). If the e-mail account will be checked on multiple computers or by multiple people on this computer, IMAP is recommended. In either case, for the incoming mail server type pop.austincc.edu and for the outgoing mail server please see the Outgoing Mail Server Chart. Click next.

  3. Beside Account name: type your ACC e-mail username and beside password: type your ACC e-mail password and click the remember password if you would like your password saved. If you do not want your password saved leave the password box blank and do not check the check box to remember password. Click next.

  4. On the Congratulations screen, click Finish.

  5. If you chose POP3 in Step 4 above, you need to make one more change to the default settings for this account.  With the account you just created still highlighted, please click on the Properties button.

  6. On the Properties screen, select the tab at the top for "Advanced".  At the bottom of the screen, please click on the checkbox to "Leave a copy of messages on server" and also click on the checkbox to "Remove mail from server after ___ day(s)".  The default is 5 days, our recommendation is 15 days.  Please do not choose to leave mail on the server for more than 30 days. Then click OK.
