Upgrade Antivirus

Symantec has released a new version of computer security software called Endpoint Protection. This is to replace Symantec Antivirus and includes both antivirus and spyware/malware/trojan protection. In an effort to deploy this, we need you to go to the following download site and read the instructions prior to downloading and installing the software:

Please note: If you are running an old version of antivirus you will have to uninstall it manually before upgrading. To find out if you have version 9.0 or less, follow the following procedure:

  1. Double-click the yellow shield in the lower right-hand corner of your desktop. Once the program interface appears, check the Program version number listed on the opening page.

If you see Symantec Endpoint listed on the opening page you have already been updated no need to continue.
If you have Symantec Antivirus Corporate 7.x, 8.x or 9.x please go to step 2.
If you have Symantec Antivirus Corporate 10.x, please go to step 5.

If you have a computer that has been replaced in the past year, it is likely you have Endpoint already installed and do not need to upgrade. Symantec Endpoint Protection would be listed in the top left corner of the dialogue box when you click the shield and open the Symantec Endpoint control panel.

  1. Open Windows control panel, click add/remove programs.
  2. Select Symantec antivirus and choose uninstall.
Note: if you get a message that you must have admin rights, you will need to call the helpdesk to request a technician.
  3. After you finish uninstalling this, reboot your computer and log back onto your desktop.
  4. Open Internet Explorer and paste the following web address into the address bar:
  5. Choose the default installation (SetupM32.exe) if you have a PC running XP or Vista. Do not install on a Windows 2000 operating system. The installation is virtually invisible except for the progress bar. There will be no need for user input.

Macintosh users will need to get the SAV.10.2.1.DMG and mount the image.

To finish the installation, please reboot your system if requested.

If you run into difficulties performing this installation or the program breaks during the installation progress, please call the helpdesk at 223-8324 and report any error messages you receive.
