Welcome to the Spring 2011 Semester

Classes officially begin on Tuesday, January 18th. The textbooks for the programs are ONLY available at the EVC or RRC bookstore or from an on-line source. A list of on-line sources is available on the “course textbooks” page of this website (see link below). No matter the source that you choose to receive your textbook(s) from, MAKE SURE that you purchase the proper edition.

For my courses, you will need access to the internet, have basic computer skills especially in Microsoft Office programs such as MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint. If you do not own a copy of MS Office, you can purchase a copy using the following link - http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx.

To my on-line students, this is a change from the course schedule:

I “HIGHLY RECOMMEND” attending the orientation for HAMG 1319 – Computers in Hospitality on Wednesday, January 19th at 4:50PM at the Round Rock Campus in Room 1208 and for HAMG 1321 – Introduction to the Hospitality Industry on Monday, January 24th at 3:30pm at the Round Rock Campus in Room 1211.

The orientation will review the syllabus and all the components that will be used in this course in Blackboard, allow you to see the components demonstrated first hand and allow for any questions. If you are enrolled in both on-line courses, choose one orientation, the basic concepts reviewed will be the same. This orientation is meant for hands-on interaction. You will still need to complete the “orientation” assignments posted on Blackboard when the semester begins, even if you attended the in-class orientation.

Students should be able to view and listen to multimedia via QuickTime, Java applications, Windows Media Player, and/or Macromedia Flash.

The website address to Blackboard is http://acconline.austincc.edu/. You will need to enter your ACCeID and password. If you do not have an ACCeID, click here. Once you have your ACCeID you can log-in to Blackboard. The site will open and you will see the link to the desired course under the heading “courses”, click on the tab, and the course information will appear.

If you are unfamiliar with Blackboard, there is a “Student Guide” for you to review.

ACC has assigned students e-mail addresses via Google. If you do not know your e-mail address or accessed it as yet please click here and follow the instructions. This e-mail address is required for course communication.

I am available via email at hjames2@austincc.edu and office phone at (512) 223-0168 if you have any questions.

This website has many helpful resources. Please take advantage of them and I look forward to working with each of you.

Your orientation for my courses will be distributed via an on-line delivery system supported by ACC called Blackboard- click here to go the log-in site. This is where you will complete your orientation for the course.
