John Hancock is the new Group Benefits Plan Long-Term Insurance Provider

John Hancock is the new provider of Long-Term Care insurance for benefits eligible participants in the Texas Employee Group Benefits Program (GBP). The open enrollment period will be March 26, 2007-April 27, 2007 for the new plan.

Sixty percent of older Americans will need help with health and personal needs and activities of daily living as they grow older. Over time these services can be very expensive. Planning how you will afford these services is an important part of your future. Long-Term Care will help you plan wisely.

Who is eligible and who can apply?

  • All actively-at-work GBP-eligible employees on employer payroll
  • Retirees who are GBP-benefits eligible
  • Spouses* of eligible employees and retirees
  • Parents and parents-in-law of eligible employees and retirees
  • Grandparents of eligible employees and retiree

Eligible family members may apply whether or not the eligible employee or retiree applies.
Employees will be automatically accepted for coverage, regardless of your current health status, if you are:

  • An eligible, actively-at-work employee working at least 17.5 hours per week enrolling during the designated 2007 enrollment period (March 26 - April 27, 2007)
  • An eligible employee working at least 17.5 hours per week who was on leave of absence or disability during the designated 2007 enrollment period enrolling within 90 days of returning to work on a regular basis
  • A newly hired eligible or newly eligible, actively-at-work employee working at least 17.5 hours per week enrolling within 90 days of first becoming eligible for this benefit

Employees and family members will need to provide proof of good health if you are:

  • An actively-at-work employee working at least 17.5 hours per week who applies after the designated 2007 enrollment period (other than an active employee who returns to work on a regular basis from a leave of absence or disability that occurred during the designated 2007 enrollment period or a newly hired eligible or newly eligible, actively-at-work employee, applying as previously described under automatic acceptance)
  • A retiree, spouse, parent, parent-in-law, or grandparent applying at any time, including during the designated 2007 enrollment period
