Project Abstract ACC Academy—2009

Jesse Jackson

This project dealt with the status of developmental education in Texas. Several documents were reviewed that were published by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Texas Education Agency, and institutions of higher education in Texas. Additionally, several educators involved in supervising and/or teaching developmental education were interviewed. The results indicated that thousands of students are enrolled in developmental education courses across Texas, and were it not for these developmental education courses in mathematics, reading, writing, and study skills, students would not be successful in the college transfer program.

The other project dealt with helping to plan the annual conference of the Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education, a statewide conference held in Austin, every other year. Several meetings were held over several months to plan this conference. The conference was held in the spring 2009, in joint participation with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
