Entering Data
If you have read/write access you may enter data. If you have read only access you cannot edit data, but you can view data (fyi - if you hit F-9 twice in read only mode the system will lock and it will have to be restarted). To enter data in a form, open the form by typing the mnemonic in the address bar or double-click the form in the tree menu. The example below is the Name and Address Entry screen. At the NAE screen, a popup window displays a lookup prompt. Type in the name of the person whose record you want to access.

Lookup Prompt

Lookup Selection Screen
If the name is already in the system you will be presented with a list of the people in Datatel with that name. Type the number corresponding to the correct name or select the checkbox beside the correct name and then select the save icon.
You can now edit this record.

Add Record Prompt
If the person is not listed Datatel you will be presented with another prompt. Click Add to add the new name.
I have entered Yosemite Sam in the following example.

NAE Screen
Datatel will add the new person in the Name field and you may continue to add information about the new person. Use the Enter key to move to the next field or use the mouse and left-click in the field you want to enter data.
Note: Please be aware that ACC personnel who are assigned the task of entering new names in the live Datatel system follow strict departmental procedures. Check with your supervisor for details.
Click on fields with a drop-down arrow
to get a list of all available choices.
Note : The detail icon
means that additional details may be added. By pressing F2
for Detail, or clicking the Detail icon
you will get a screen or menu for more information.
For help in any field, place your cursor in that field and hit Shift+F1
or click the help icon
. This will provide an explanation of what information should be entered
into the field. If you need more information, click More.
When you click inside a field, the bottom of the screen will show the name of the field followed by the word Lookup. Typing three dots (...) in the field followed by Enter will bring up a list of accepted values.
Fields that require a date have a calendar icon
next to the field. Key in the date or click on the calendar icon to bring
up a calendar. Use the <<, <, > and
>> buttons to navigate the calendar and click on the desired
date.
When you are finished editing a record click the Save
icon to save your changes or the Cancel
icon to cancel your changes. You can also use the shortcut keys F10
to save and Shift + F9 to cancel. Be aware that the system will time out in 60 minutes if it is not being used.
