General Assembly Focuses on the Millennial Generation

A presentation by keynote speaker Dr. Terri Manning will highlight this year's General Assembly on August 26th. Dr. Manning will discuss the millennial generation, the group of individuals born between 1982 and 2000 who now comprise the majority of our student population. She will also offer an afternoon workshop as a follow up to her morning presentation. The day will begin with a breakfast at the Red Lion Hotel with workshops taking place in the afternoon.

Another special feature of the day will be an afternoon workshop by Dr. Claire Ellen Weinstein, Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. Perhaps best known for developing the LASSI (Learning and Study Strategies Inventory) to predict academic performance, Dr. Weinstein has authored numerous publications about learning strategies.

Classroom sessions are offered every month and the online versions are available on an ongoing basis.

Neal Nored

The new Manager of Instructional Technology might be new to ACC but his involvement in educational computing goes back to 1968. (Hey wasn't that the same year we discovered a rectangular, oblong steel artifact on the moon?) Neal Nored's career has carried him all around the United States in some interesting positions, including working as a Strategist for IBM Corporation and as a Vice President for Product Development for Blackboard. Neal has even been involved in "higher" learning by training pilots to fly large aircraft. But in 2000, because of family, he headed back to Texas and now enjoys living with his wife on some land near San Marcos.

For recreation, Neal collects and shoots antique firearms. "I don't own any weapon made in the 20th century," he said, admitting to being a Civil War historian. And that's not all. He also enjoys writing and playing music and, in fact, played briefly in a band during high school with Joe Ely. If you're over at the Rio Grande campus, you might stop by room 201.11 and say hello.
