Special Events

In the fall of 2005, the Professional Development Committee sent an electronic survey to all ACC supervisors, asking them to identify the types of training needed by new and existing ACC supervisors. In response to that survey, the Professional Development & Evaluation Office is pleased to announce that a sequence of workshops entitled “Supervisor Series” is now available to all ACC supervisors. Current offerings are listed below while additional workshops are being designed and will be added in the coming months.

Supervisor Series - Online: HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)

The federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act is designed to ensure that everyone's health information is kept private and secure by all persons who handle, or have access to, that information. All ACC supervisors are required to complete this training module. After the online module is completed, the user will take a quiz about the material and the results will be sent to the Professional Development Office so that a record of completion may be kept.
Enroll and then visit http://www.austincc.edu/hltsci/hipaa/ to begin the module.

Which Comes First--Happiness or Success?

Does success in life bring happiness, or is it the other way around? Most research studies presume that happiness follows success, but the American Psychological Association recently announced findings based on 250 other studies on happiness that point to just the opposite: Success follows happiness. Other factors such as intelligence, family, and physical fitness contribute to success, but making decisions that help produce happiness really does help you achieve it. Happy individuals are more likely to have fulfilling marriages and relationships, high incomes, superior work performance, community involvement, robust health, and even a long life. It looks like the adage “do what makes you happy and success will follow” has empirical support.

Rachel Lanham

You might have seen Rachel at Riverside Campus helping faculty in Media Services, but now she's moved on over to the mothership, aka HBC, to work as a Production Operations Specialist with Video Services. She'll be recording, editing, and uploading videos of ACC Board meetings as well as facilitating satellite downlinks and audio/web conferencing.

Rachel's one of those rare, native Austinites who can be found on weekends hiking on the greenbelt, or if it's the right weather, swimming in Barton Springs. Her other interests include reading, writing, and spending time with her high school sweetheart, a man she began dating at 16 and married in 2003.

If you have something scheduled in the IVCs, Rachel's the one to call for help. She's on the second floor near the elevator in room 216. To contact her, email rlanham@austincc.edu or call 223-7791.
