Professional Development Day PowerPoint Now on the Web

The theme “Focus on Effectiveness” drew 230 ACC employees to our Eastview Campus for a day full of professional development opportunities on June 9. In addition to learning about and entering into discussions about a variety of topics, participants were addressed at lunch time by Dr. Barbara Mink, last year's Chair of the Board of Trustees. The PowerPoint presentation upon which her comments were based is available on our web site at http://www.austincc.edu/hr/profdev/events/MinksPPT.ppt. If you have suggestions for topics for next year’s event, please send them to shamende@austincc.edu.

Ron Johns

ACC's 2006 Minnie L. Stevens Piper Nominee is Geology Professor Ron Johns, who has been teaching at ACC since 1990. "Like most children, I loved dinosaurs and fossils when I was a kid. I just never grew out of it," said Ron.

While originally from Ohio, he moved to Austin to get his Master's and Doctoral degrees from UT and, like a few others of us, never left. Ron and his wife are busy these days renovating a home, and Ron can actually be seen quite a bit in the Building Construction Department taking classes. He has "three furry children," a collie, a terrier, and a cat.
