nanotechnology in medicine graphicsIntroduction to Nanotechnology

Nanoscience and nanotechnology involve studying and working with matter on an ultra-small scale. In fact, one nanometre is one-millionth of a millimetre and a single human hair is around 80,000 nanometres in width. This introductory presentation will provide to all ACC faculty and staff an overview of nanotechnology and its future impact on technology, the economy, and society. The presenters are Dr. Raj Nagarajan, Dr. Hector Aguilar, and Dr. Alberto Quinonez from the Electronics and Advanced Technologies Department of ACC. The presentation will review the basics of nanotechnology and the many applications and industries affected such as electronics, energy, medicine, and materials development. Because nanotechnology is multi-disciplinary, concepts from Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Biotechnology, and others will be presented.

Vida Forrest y Salazar
Vida Hirschy y Salazar

Meet ACC’s new Faculty and Staff Evaluation Coordinator Vida Forrest y Salazar who came to ACC last June, the same month she also got married and had her car totaled. Despite her tumultuous start, she has continued to bring high energy and organization to the Professional Development and Evaluation Department.

Vida moved to Austin three years ago after growing up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. There she attended the University of New Mexico where she received a Bachelor of Arts in both Communication and Spanish.  She stayed at UNM and attended graduate school to complete a Master’s in Communication.  In Austin, Vida worked for over two years as an Instructor, Texas Success Initiative Coordinator, and eventually Assistant Dean for Austin Business College.  She has also begun taking classes at Texas State for another Master’s, this time in Educational Administration, which she hopes to complete in 2007.
