Much has been written about the topic of wellness and there are many resources available for integrating wellness into your everyday life. Maybe you would like to improve your quality of life and achieve more balance, but you’re overwhelmed by the amount of information available. Summer Professional Development Day will offer sessions that could help you clarify your goals and jump start your journey to a calmer, healthier lifestyle that will aid your productivity and efficiency at work.

Clear your calendar for Friday, June 8 and plan to spend the day at ACC’s Eastview campus soaking up the knowledge you need to begin working toward the changes you’ve only been thinking about until now. Other topics offered that day will include HIPAA, FERPA, Servant-Leadership, Macromedia Contribute, PowerPoint and more.  Details of this event will be announced in May.

Latest Developments

individual writing imageAnnual Evaluations

It’s time for P.E.P. Annual Evaluations.  If you are a supervisor, you should complete the evaluations for your employees during April and May.  Here is the link to download the P.E.P. forms: http://www.austincc.edu/hr/eval/forms/07%20PEP%20with%20SL.pdf. Send all completed P.E.P. forms to Vida Forrest Y Salazar, HBC 601.

Please check our website at http://www.austincc.edu/hr/eval/supervisors.php for more information about the evaluation process.

If you are unsure about the process for Annual Evaluations, there are multiple workshops available entitled, The A, B, C, and Ds of Evaluation.  The workshops will cover the overall idea behind evaluations, the ACC process for evaluations, supervisor and employee requirements, and best practices for giving and receiving feedback.

Brain Research

As ACC begins more direct involvement with implementing the mandates of HB-1, including course redesign, it may be a good time to give a quick look into what the sciences have been discovering about our biology and brain function in the learning process.

One site I enjoy is Brain Connection. It’s not overly technical and if you have given them your email, you will get a periodic reminder of new articles available. There is an Education Connection, a library of articles, a Brain Teasers and Brain Games sections (use it or lose it!), Neuro News and more. Give it a look and maybe a bookmark.

This month’s Editor’s Choice is on the somewhat controversial subject of emotional intelligence, popularized by Daniel Goleman.
