Announcing PIPER Nominations
Austin Community College is an invited participant in the 2012 Minnie Stevens Piper Professor award, a statewide award for college faculty. The Piper Foundation reviews all materials and chooses those who will receive the prestigious award, which includes a $5000 prize.
ACC’s Piper Professor Nomination Selection Committee is in the process of selecting our nominee. Four faculty members had moving and richly descriptive letters supporting them to represent ACC. These letters included a description of current additional or administrative duties, service to the off-campus community, particular effectiveness in the classroom and in personal contact with students, and unusual dedication to the profession of teaching.
It is our pleasure to announce the faculty members who were selected for review by the ACC Piper Professor Nomination Selection Committee:
Dr. Alice Sessions, Professor, Biology, Round Rock Campus
Tobin Quereau, Professor, Human Development, Grande Campus
Dr. Jennifer Beck, Associate Professor, Psychology, Northridge Campus
Anne-Marie Schlender, Professor, English for Speakers of Other Languages, Rio Grande Campus
Although only one of these outstanding faculty members will be chosen as our Piper nominee, they all deserve congratulations for being nominated.
For more information and to view the nomination forms which the ACC nominee will be required to complete and submit to the Piper Foundation, you may go to http://www.window.state.tx.us/scholars/programs/ppnominationform.html. ACC Faculty and Staff have access to these free, web-delivered workshops and videos each month via Starlink, but the login process and website has changed. Instead of receiving a password each time you would like to watch a video for Professional Development credit, you will now have an individual login in order to access all of the available materials! Go to www.starlinktraining.org and create an account using your ACC email. For instructions, go here.
All ACC Employees have Access to the Starlink Library
The STARLINK Library consists of 125 hours of video-based professional development. It is divided into two parts: ninety “Archived Videos” which are 60 to 90 minute programs and one-hundred thirty “Ideas” which are two to seven minute single concept teaching tips. The award-winning and nationally renowned teachers featured in these videos present proven best practices, time-honored teaching concepts, and the latest classroom and online concepts.
Each program that STARLINK produces is accompanied by a 20 to 30 page resource packet. This print packet supplements and enhances the concepts and teaching strategies presented in the video program. It generally contains articles by the presenters, bibliography, and various other kinds of print materials to assist faculty and administrators to promote student learning.
