About the Career

Human services professionals help people through public health agencies, nursing homes, youth services, residential treatment programs, hospitals, mental retardation and developmental disabilities services, homeless shelters and schools any organization that provides support to people with specialized needs. Human services para-professionals generally work as part of a treatment team that includes social workers, psychologists, and other health care workers. The amount of responsibility and supervision they are given varies. Some are on their own most of the time with little direct supervision others work under close direction.

What can I expect to earn?

Starting salaries for graduates may range from $23,000 to $36,000 a year. According to the Employment Projections 2002 – 2012, job prospects in this field are increasing. Many human services para-professionals opt to further their education in order to enhance career prospects and earnings.

About our program

ACC’s Human Services program will prepare you for employment in public and private human service agencies. Our programs offer both classroom instruction and practical training, including internships that will develop your skills in a real-life setting. The courses we provide will train you to work with various populations including children, adolescents, families, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
