I started Austin Community College in the spring of 2009. I started college as a functionally illiterate adult, and I had to take developmental classes (math, writing, study skills, and reading) to help build a strong foundation toward my goal of graduation. I was able to excel in my classes by using all the services that ACC offered, and I was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa the following semester. I learned how to hone my leadership skills, help my community through many service opportunities, work with colleagues on scholarly research, and gain new friendships. I was President of Sigma Alpha Pi, ACCís chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success, and I was able to help many achieve their goals through leading by example. I was awarded the Presidential Student Achievement Award, and I got the chance to speak at the 2012 graduation ceremony. All my hard work had paid off. A journey begins with one step, and itís all up to you on how exciting your expedition of education will be. Make the right choices, humble yourself, and have confidence in all you do, and you will be amazed by what an education can do to you.
