ANATOMY OF DISGUST by William Ian Miller - Harvard University Press. (An excellent read) "In many forms of its forms disgust is not simply aversive, and the content of the disgusting is complex and at times paradoxical. It is a commonplace that the disgusting can attract as well as repel: the film and entertainment industries, among which we might include news coverage, literally bank on its allure." Why has the teddy bear gained so much weight over the course of the twentieth century?  This is an encyclopedia of low-brow aesthetics.  I love this book because it is skeptical, riotous, and prickly.  Read it.
