What skills can I gain?

Students develop expertise collecting, recording, and analyzing financial information regarding the operations and financial condition of businesses and organizations.

What are my degree and certificate options?

Associate of Applied Science Degrees
Accounting Specialist - Designed for students already working in a related field who are seeking credentials for professional development or advancement, but not a four-year degree in accounting.

Accounting Technician - Students without prior work or educational background who are interested in entry-level accounting positions should select this program. Departmental approval is required for admission.

*Students interested in transferring to a four-year college or university to major in Accounting should follow the Business Administration Associate of Science degree plan.

Advanced Technical Certificate
Professional Accountant - If your goal is to become a Certified Public Accountant, you should select this four-semester program. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or higher. If the degree did not include 2301 and 2302 level courses in accounting in economics, they must be completed prior to admission to the program.

Accounting Clerk - This three-semester program provides short-term workforce training suite for those wanting to work as entry level accounting technicians. With experience, accounting technicians can advance to become office managers or head bookkeepers in a variety of sectors.

Marketable Skills Awards
Accounting Specialist - Students already employed in accounting or related areas can be recognized for attainment of advanced skills in this one-semester program. All courses may be applied to the certificate and advanced technical program.

Accounting Technician - This certificate recognizes that a student possesses the basic skills necessary for employment in the accounting field.

How long will it take to get a degree or certificate?

It typically takes students at least two years to complete an Associate Degree, which can be the foundation for a four-year degree. Certificates take less time, involve fewer foundation classes, and are often preferred by people already working in the field.

Graduates are employed with accounting firms and a wide range of businesses including manufacturing companies, service organizations, financial institutions, insurance companies, nonprofits, and government entities.
