Independence and flexibility in a dynamic business
Real estate agents and brokers can be a buyer's best friend and a seller's secret weapon. The real estate industry also includes the related fields of development, mortgage banking, property management, leasing, and urban planning. It's a fast-moving, face-to-face business that happens seven days a week. At ACC, you'll learn alongside expert instructors who are agents and brokers licensed by the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC). Students receive preparation for the TREC licensing exam, required of all agents and brokers statewide. A five-course, fast-track certificate in Real Estate is available, as well as an Associate of Applied Science degree. Both are approved by TREC and accredited by the prestigious Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs. Classes are offered at flexible times throughout the week and in online distance learning formats. Sold yet?
What skills can I gain?
Students focus on real estate marketing, the financial and contractual details surrounding the transfer of property, and the appraisals used to determine a property's value. Associate degree students study math, economics, and real estate law, among other subjects.
* The Real Estate department receives accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (www.acbsp.org). ACBSP is the premier accrediting association for business schools and programs with a focus on teaching excellence. The Texas Real Estate Commission has authorized ACC to be a provider of Real Estate courses.
How long will it take to earn a degree or certificate, and what's the difference?
The Real Estate certificate program is your fast track to the workforce. It requires only three real estate courses and two unrestricted electives, which can be satisfied by previous college work. Certificate students receive focused preparation for the Texas Real Estate Commission sales licensing exam, mandatory for all Texas agents. After two years of sales experience and six additional Real Estate courses, you will be qualified to take the broker exam.
Associate degree students often require two years to complete their studies. The degree includes advanced real estate courses in addition to a foundation of core academic classes.
Students who attend class part-time will graduate later but are able to fit their studies into an existing daily schedule.
Where can I work with this education?
Texas has two types of real estate licenses, a Broker license and a Sales license. Individuals with a sales license can perform real estate activities only under the sponsorship a licensed Broker. Graduates often work in both of these capacities as well as in the management of community associations or income properties.
- Bureau of Labor Statistics (United States Department of Labor)
- Texas Workforce Commission
