Ceramics in Monteverde and San Vicente, Costa Rica

Deadline to apply:February 17th; however, applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis, pending instructor approval. Approval will be based on application and interview.

Program Site: This program takes place in the Costa Rican villages of Monteverde and San Vicente.

Duration: 3 weeks during the second summer session.

Description: Participans, under the instruction of ACC Faculty/Staff members Ishmael Soto and Julie Isaacson, will have the opportunity to learn about the history and influences of pre columbian ceramic art, as well as basic techniques for making and firing ceramics.

Courses and Credit: Ceramics I/ARTS 2346 or Ceramics II/Arts 2347. 3 ACC Credits.

Accommodations: While in Monteverde and San Vicente, students will stay in the homes of local families. During field trips and excursions, students will stay in hotels.

Activities and Other Program Features: Homestays with local families; weekend excursions to Arenal Volcano & Hot Springs and to a pacific coach beach; museum visits; coffee plantation tour and zip-line activity; sailing excursion; local artisan workshops and more!

Eligibility: Although a major in the arts is not required, it is preferred.

Acceptance Policy: Acceptance will be based on application and interview.

Program Fee: $2450
Includes accommodations, most meals, two weekend excursions, airport pick up & drop off, museum entrance fees, local transportation, Monteverde Talk & Tour plus zip-line activity, sailing excursion, local coordinator/guide, general fee (covers some instructor expenses). Not included: tuition, airfare, supplies, personal expenses.

Scholarships: Funding is available through the Campus Activity Board and the Board of Trustees Study Abroad Scholarship program.
