Take Japanese II in the beautiful country of Japan. Not only will you earn 5 hours of ACC credit, you will meet Japanese students with whom you can practice your conversational skills! Plus, learn the art of tea ceremonies, calligraphy, flower arranging, and more. Hosted by Kyoei University, 20 miles north of Tokyo!

Program Site: This program takes place at Kyoei University, located in Kasukabe City, less than 40 minutes by train north of Tokyo.

Duration: 4 weeks during the first summer session, 2010

Description: Immerse yourself in the rich culture of Japan and experience life as a college student on a prestigious university campus along with other ACC students and ACC instructor Emi Schuster.

Course and Credit: Japanese II / JAPN 1512 - Continuation of JAPN 1511 with more advanced conversation, basic writing, listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary building, grammar, and culture. 5 ACC Credits.

Accommodations: Students will stay in the Sprouting House, an on-campus house designed for student living. Students will share dorm-style rooms, common areas including a fully-equipped kitchen,
male/female separate community bathrooms, and a sun room.

Activities and Other Program Features: Weekend trip to Nikko; 3 cultural activities: tea ceremony lesson, flower arranging lesson, calligraphy lesson; day trip to Tokyo; partnerships with local members of student clubs

Eligibility: By the end of Spring 2010, students must have completed a first semester college Japanese course of at least four semester hours with a grade of C or better, or have equivalent credit by examination to enroll in JAPN 1512. Previous participants of this study abroad program will be considered only if spots are still available after December 1.

Program Fee: $1200-1400. Includes accommodations, airport pick-up/drop-off, cultural activities, Nikko weekend excursion, Tokyo day trip, host institution fee

Not included: tuition, airfare, books and supplies, meals, and personal expenses (which can vary greatly from student to student). Scholarships may be applied to program costs.

Scholarships: Funding is available through the Campus Activity Board and the Board of Trustees Study Abroad Scholarship program.
